CEMENTIFERA LIGURE [IT]

Exploration #208 Cementifera Ligure. This old lime kiln, now a relic of industrial heritage, has its origins in the early 1900s. It was founded on this site due to the presence of limestone rocks and dense woodland in the area. Lime production was used almost exclusively in construction until the introduction of Portland cement. Owned by Cementifera Ligure, it was later acquired by Italcementi in 1987.
The site consists of a continuous cycle lime kiln, crushers and some warehouses.
The lime kilns ceased operations in the 1940s, while the rest of the complex was in operation until the early 2000s. The site has been abandoned for some years, but in 2022 the adjacent quarry resumed mining operations. The lime kiln should instead be preserved as an architectural monument.
