CEMENTIFERA LIGURE [IT]

Exploration #208 Cementifera Ligure (testo italiano a fondo pagina). This old lime kiln, now a relic of industrial heritage, has its origins in the early 1900s. It was founded on this site due to the presence of limestone rocks and dense woodland in the area. Lime production was used almost exclusively in construction until the introduction of Portland cement. Owned by Cementifera Ligure, it was later acquired by Italcementi in 1987.
The site consists of a continuous cycle lime kiln, crushers and some warehouses.
The lime kilns ceased operations in the 1940s, while the rest of the complex was in operation until the early 2000s. The site has been abandoned for some years, but in 2022 the adjacent quarry resumed mining operations. The lime kiln should instead be preserved as an architectural monument.

Esplorazione #208. Questo antico forno a calce, oggi un reperto di archeologia industriale, ha la sua origne a inizio 900. Venne fondato in questo luogo per la presenza nella zona di rocce calcaree e di una folta boscaglia. La produzione di calce era utilizzata in modo quasi esclusivo nell’edilizia fino all’introduzione del cemento Portland. Di proprietà della Cementifera Ligure, fu poi acquistato da Italcementi nel 1987.
Il sito si compone di una fornace a calce a ciclo continuo, frantoi e alcuni magazzini.
I forni a calce cessarono le operazioni negli anni ’40, mentre il resto del complesso fu in attività fino a inizio 2000. Il sito è rimasto abbandonato per alcuni anni ma nel 2022 la adiacente cava ha ripreso attività estrattiva. Il forno a calce dovrebbe essere invece conservato come bene architettonico.
