GHOST TOWN BEDOGLIO [IT]

Exploration #209 Ghost town Bedolgio (testo italiano a fondo pagina). Spriana is a municipality of districts. There are nine of them, now all uninhabited, and without a carriageable road, so they can only be reached via a mule track and paths, often clinging to steep rocks in places. This accessibility of the old hamlets of the municipality makes Spriana one of the most fascinating and unspoilt municipalities of the Valmalenco, an ideal place for those who want to take easy hikes in the midst of greenery, and who like to immerse themselves in the rural atmosphere of times gone by.
From Spriana, one follows the mule track that gradually ascends to the ghost town of Bedoglio, a district formed by three groups of houses. Here there was also a bread oven, Cà di flèm (House of the Flematti), to which the inhabitants of other districts also resorted.
Until 1940, around 30 families lived here, living only partially off the meagre land and with little livestock due to the scarcity of meadows. The men were generally forced to emigrate as miners and bricklayers. The reasons for abandonment are many, first and foremost the depopulation of the valleys, demographic decline, the extinction of ancient trades or due to natural causes. Or, as happened to the Bedoglio ghost town, this was abandoned in 1965 following the collapse of the adjacent valley of the same name.

Bedoglio is not the only ghost town I have visited. In Liguria, for example, I visited the village of Costa di Soglio, here you can see the photos: Exploration of Costa di Soglio.

Esplorazione #209.
