SS BAKERY [DE]

Exploration #152 (testo italiano a fondo pagina). This abandoned building served as bakery for the Nazi regime from 1941 until the end of World War II. It was built by prisoners about a mile and a half outside the nearby Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Around 80 prisoners were forced to work the factory, where they made and distributed bread to feed their fellow victims at the Sachsenhausen camp, SS units around Berlin, and eventually even neighboring concentration camps.
The forced laborers started off baking 10,000 loaves of bread a day, then production was ramped up to 40,000 loaves a day after shift-work was introduced and two new ovens installed.
The Red Army took over the factory after the war, keeping production going to feed sick and weak survivors of the liberated camp. Between 1948 and 1991 it operated as a normal bakery, until it was abandoned after the reunification of Germany.

Esplorazione #152. Questo edificio abbandonato servì come panificio per il regime nazista dal 1941 fino alla fine della seconda guerra mondiale. Fu costruito dai prigionieri a circa un miglio e mezzo dal vicino campo di concentramento di Sachsenhausen. Circa 80 prigionieri furono costretti a lavorare nella fabbrica, dove producevano e distribuivano il pane per nutrire i loro compagni nel campo di Sachsenhausen, le unità delle SS intorno a Berlino e alla fine anche i campi di concentramento vicini.

L’Armata Rossa subentrò nella fabbrica dopo la guerra, mantenendo la produzione per nutrire i sopravvissuti malati e deboli del campo liberato. Tra il 1948 e il 1991 funzionò come un normale panificio, fino a quando fu abbandonato dopo la riunificazione della Germania.
