PANZERKASERNE BERNAU [DE]

Exploration #16 (testo italiano a fondo pagina). This place was originally built to host part of the buildings of the Heeresbekleidungsamt, the central manufacturing site and depot for Military uniforms during Nazi period. It was constructed between 1939 and 1942 using reinforced and shatterproof concrete, with the exterior being covered in bricks. Its size and scale soon earned itself the nickname as “the Führers wardrobe”. The Germans used the buildings only for 3 years as the Soviets arrived in Bernau on April 1945.
Around 1946 the Soviet Red Army began shifting troops around, specifically the 1st mechanized Krasnogradsky Red Banner Corps.
Soviets left the Panzerkaserne Bernau between 1991 and 1993, but it took until 1997 for Bernau to receive back the ownership rights of the Panzerkaserne. Then, the huge buildings have been abandoned until 2016 the municipality decided to redevelop the 36 hectares into a new city district.

Esplorazione #16. Questo luogo fu originariamente costruito per ospitare parte degli edifici dell’Heeresbekleidungsamt, il sito centrale di produzione e deposito di uniformi militari durante il periodo nazista.
Fu costruito tra il 1939 e il 1942 usando cemento armato antisfondamento, con l’esterno rivestito di mattoni. La sua dimensione e scala si guadagnò presto il soprannome di “guardaroba del Führer”. I tedeschi usarono gli edifici solo per 3 anni, poiché i sovietici arrivarono a Bernau nell’aprile 1945.
Intorno al 1946 l’Armata Rossa sovietica iniziò a spostare le truppe, in particolare il 1° corpo meccanizzato Krasnogradsky Red Banner.
I sovietici lasciarono la Panzerkaserne Bernau tra il 1991 e il 1993, ma ci volle fino al 1997 perché Bernau ricevesse indietro i diritti di proprietà della Panzerkaserne. Poi, gli enormi edifici sono stati abbandonati fino al 2016 quando il comune ha deciso di riqualificare i 36 ettari in un nuovo quartiere cittadino.
